WOOLI / 無理 / 우리 is an avant-garde folk duo formed by Taiwanese pipa player Fan-Qi Wu and Norwegian drummer Michael Lee Sørenmo.

 

WOOLI DUO explores the endless possibilities of sound through extensive improvisational interplay between pipa and percussion. Drawing inspiration from East Asian traditional music and rooted in the spirit of avant-garde folk, their music is shaped through improvisation, real-time dialogue, and a shared curiosity for sound.

Wooli Duo reinterpret and engage with tradition not as a fixed form but as an ever-changing force, embracing the unique sound texture and soundscape of music, a fluid, organic musical language of their own.

Since their debut in Oslo in April 2024, the duo has performed across Europe at festivals such as Aarhus Jazz Festival, Vestafor Festival, Babel Sound Festival, and (s)Nodi Festival. Their first album is currently in development and is scheduled for release in 2026.
